The Open Network (TON), which was first created by brothers Pavel and Nikolai Durov, fell down late on Tuesday night. Users with keen eyes saw that the protocol was no longer handling transactions. As per blockchain explorer Tonscan, the network that was formerly linked to the messaging app Telegram has not generated any new blocks in the last 48 hours. When TON posted from its X account, it acknowledged that there was "a disruption in block production to its network," and it added that the problem was happening "due to the abnormal load." "Several validators are unable to clean the database of old transactions, which has led to losing the consensus," it stated.
In response to a request from TON Core, the chain's development team, validators are scrambling to restart their nodes and software in order to restore network consensus. Decrypt verified that deposits and withdrawals to and from the network have been halted by Binance and Bybit. A request for comment from a network spokesperson was not immediately answered. The introduction of the $DOGS meme coin earlier on Tuesday was "causing quite a lot of traffic" on the network, according to Tonscan, "with a few central services taking a little break."
